Canadian Sports Concussions Project

Concussion Brochure

Today, a concussion is understood to be a serious brain injury, but back in 2015, concussions were often dismissed as minor medical events. Some doctors like Dr. Charles Tator knew about the severe ramifications of concussions, but we still didn’t have enough research to really understand how to treat them and warn of the ramifications of not resting after sustaining concussion.

When the Canadian Sports Concussions Project (now The Canadian Concussion Centre) approached us, they wanted donations, but not just monetary – they were also looking for posthumous brain donations from athletes who sustained multiple concussions. And while it may sound unsettling, many athletes, have agreed to donate their brains so that we can gain a better understanding of concussions.
